Owner; Antepartum, Childbirth, & Postpartum Doula.

Three adjectives to describe you.

Determined. Curious. Loving.

What's something unique about you?

I have a profound love for animals.

I have lived ALL OVER! Harrington Park, Fort Lee, and Englewood Cliffs in Bergen County. I lived in Maryland throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies, and then the Czech Republic and Armenia during my adventurous 20s. Now, my husband, kids, & I call idyllic Piermont, NY home.

What do you love to do when you're not working?

I have a lot of hobbies--reading certainly tops the list, but making family photo books comes in a close second. I also love going for walks with my children, antiquing, and visiting tea houses with my husband.

Why did you become a doula?

Doula work came to my consciousness about a year after my daughter was born. I was finally ready to think more deeply about how the births of my two children played out, and why those events conspired in the ways they did. All roads led to the inevitable, "What if?" question, as in, "What if I had had a doula?" And so it began.

What are you most passionate about in the field of birth work?

It's important to me that women be treated with unconditional respect through every moment of pregnancy, childbirth, and parenthood. True respect means that health care providers, friends, family, coworkers, and anyone else remotely connected to the woman listens to what she has to say, provides unbiased feedback and guidance when she requests it, and supports her in her choices, regardless of how different their own choices may have been in the same situation.

What's your favorite place to eat out in Bergen County?

Baumgart's in Englewood--the food is delicious, plus every time I'm there, I picture my parents and grandparents sitting on the bar stools, waiting for an old-fashioned ice cream float back in the 60s and 70s. Truly a classic in both my family and Bergen County.
